COLLABORATIVE ENGAGEMENT SUPPLEMENTSĬollaborative Engagement Supplements will be available for applications submitted under Community Outreach Projects and Collaborative Education and Training Projects that support coordination among 1890s, 1862s, 1994s, Insular Areas, ANNH, and HSACU. Potential applicants must have an established track record of working with target audiences, and must be capable of developing and modifying food safety training curricula to meet new FSMA rules for a variety of agricultural production and processing systems. For example, these projects will support collaborations among states not necessarily located within the same regions, but having common food safety concerns, or addressing common commodities. Collaborative Education and Training ProjectsĬollaborative Education and Training Projects will support the development of multi-county, state-wide or multi-state programs. New audiences should include those from a variety of agricultural production and processing systems. In addition, Community Outreach Projects enable existing education and training curricula and other resources to be modified to ensure that they are consistent with FSMA guidelines and that they meet the needs of expanded audiences. These projects enable the development of new programs and allow existing programs to broaden their scope by reaching out to a larger number of participants, or expand the programs to new and broader audiences. Community Outreach ProjectsĬommunity Outreach Projects will support the development of new food safety education and outreach programs in local niche- and hard to reach communities (previously known as Pilot Projects) and expand upon existing food safety education and outreach programs that address the needs of small, specialized audiences whose education needs have not previously been adequately addressed.

Because the size and capabilities of eligible applicants vary widely, projects will be awarded at two levels in FY 2022.

Eligibility is quite broad, including Cooperative Extension, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, federal, state, local and tribal agencies, and institutions of higher education. The program focuses on the delivery of customized training for owners and operators of small to mid-sized farms, beginning farmers, socially disadvantaged farmers, small processors, and small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers. In FY 2022, the Food Safety Outreach Program (FSOP) is expanding upon the FY 2015 national infrastructure established by USDA-NIFA and FDA-CFSAN (National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Competitive Grants Program).
